Providing great client experiences has always been, and will continue to be, why we do what we do.
Established in 2009, Riverstone is an independent financial planning business, covering the North West to the North East of England and up into the Borders.
Between us, we have many years of financial experience in various sectors including investment, pensions, banking and property finance. The investment specialist, Tim Hale, also works with us on a consultancy basis.
We are a founder member of the Financial Planners’ Group, an informal group of like-minded, forward thinking , proactive financial planning businesses. This means you gain access to a greater client experience as we are all committed to sharing best practice along with the joint development of our investment proposition.
What’s most important to us about financial planning is the way it can transform people’s lives and give them peace of mind.
Above all, we want to help people, whether they’re business owners, people planning for retirement or those already in retirement, to enjoy life without having to worry about their financial affairs.
By adopting a refreshing approach to financial planning, we believe we can help you to find the freedom to live the life you really want to live.

Ian is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. He also holds a Diploma from the Personal Finance Society and is an Affiliate of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP). He particularly enjoys helping business owners and professionals who can see the goal of retirement in sight but are not sure how to get there.
A keen violinist since childhood, Ian plays most days, thanks to the forbearance of family and neighbours! He is also a Trustee of the Charles Halle Foundation, the charitable arm of Manchester’s Halle orchestra. Ian and his wife travel extensively.

The most rewarding part of the job for Mark is showing people what they can achieve with their money and helping them to turn vague dreams into reality. He likes to give people the peace of mind of having their own ‘personal finance director’.
Mark holds a Diploma from the Personal Finance Society together with an advanced pension qualification.
Mark’s main hobbies are travelling, winter sports and fishing. In fact, his love of rivers provided the inspiration for the company’s name.

Driven by his experience of the difficulties that many investors faced trying to invest sensibly, he set up Albion Strategic Consulting in 2001. This formed a niche, working with a small group of high quality financial planning firms in the UK, helping them to establish and manage a robust, risk-focused and low cost, passive approach to investing for their clients.
Tim’s book, ‘Smarter Investing: Simpler Decisions for Better Results’ was first published in 2006 and is now it its third edition.
He lives in Devon with his wife and two young daughters and enjoys the moors, the beaches and cycling in the South West. He can sometimes be spotted on his paddle board in the Exe estuary, heading for a sun-downer at one of the waterside hostelries.

In her teenage years, Kirstie was pretty good at playing the Wurlitzer organ (yes, like the one in Blackpool Tower!) and took part in numerous concerts, not that she enjoyed being in the spotlight.
These days, she’s more interested in fitness. Having attended an outdoor boot camp for six years, which led to her taking part in a few half marathons in June 2016, she finally took the plunge and joined a Crossfit gym and is now obsessed with it. She still runs but mainly 10k trail runs along with torturing herself with assault courses like Total Warrior!
